Please see below details of recent scams that are affecting Island Residents.
1.Trading Standards are receiving lots of reports about scam calls telling residents that their internet is being cut off unless they make a payment.THIS IS A SCAM. If you are able to see the number that is calling you and don’t recognise it – don’t answer! For further advise on how to stay safe from Scams visit www.iwasp.org.uk.
2.Trading Standards are warning about rogue callers knocking on doors advising residents that they could be paying too much Council Tax. This is nothing to do with the IOW Council and they would not approach their residents in this way. Please do not give any information to anyone knocking on your door regardless of who they claim to be working on behalf of. If you have any queries regarding your council tax, you can check with the IoW Council Revenue and Benefits Team in the usual way at: https://www.iow.gov.uk/Residents/Benefits-Council-Tax-and-Business-Rates/Council-Tax-Services/Council-Tax/Change-of-Circumstances or call (01983) 823901.
