DOMESTIC ABUSE LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT

Domestic can happen to anyone — regardless of age, background, ethnicity, gender identity, sex, religion or sexual orientation. The police receive a domestic abuse-related call every 30 seconds.

1 in 4 women in England and Wales will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime. The harmful impacts of domestic abuse on survivors can affect their mental health, physical wellbeing and family safety

Approximately 1 in 7 children in the UK have been exposed to domestic abuse. It is vital to recognise that these children do not simply ‘witness’ domestic abuse; they are recognised in law as victims in their own right. Domestic abuse can profoundly affect a child’s development, behaviour, health, education, and overall wellbeing, with impacts that can last into adulthood.

To help professionals respond to domestic abuse, the IOW Safeguarding Children Partnership, IOW Safeguarding Adults Board, and IOW Domestic Abuse Partnership Board are offering a new suite of FREE domestic abuse courses. These courses are designed for anyone working with children, families, or adults at risk on the Island.
