Confidence in Action

Safeguarding is not just about knowing what abuse looks like, it’s about knowing what to do when something doesn’t feel right. Today, we focus on building confidence across all roles and services to recognise concerns early and respond appropriately.

Whether you work in frontline care, administration, housing, libraries, or customer services, you may be the first person to notice when something is wrong. A quiet comment, a change in behaviour, a gut feeling, these moments matter. Safeguarding starts with awareness, but it only works when we act.

Professional Reflection

“Would I recognise the signs of abuse or neglect? Do I know what to do if I have a concern, and am I confident enough to act?”

“Have I ever hesitated to report something because I wasn’t sure it was ‘serious enough’? What support would help me feel more confident?”

Why Confidence Matters

Many safeguarding concerns go unreported, not because people don’t care, but because they’re unsure:

  • Is this really abuse?
  • What if I get it wrong?
  • Who do I tell?
  • Will I be supported if I speak up?

Building confidence means:

  • Knowing the signs of abuse and neglect
  • Understanding your responsibilities
  • Being clear on how to report concerns
  • Trusting your instincts, and knowing they’re valid

Safeguarding is everyone’s business, and everyone has a role to play.
